Welcome to the 6th EFYE Conference

This year our theme will be: Rethinking the First Year Experiences and we invite submissions from practitioners, researchers and policy makers that will further our understanding of our students’ journeys and how we support and enhance their rich experiences. To submit, please visit our Abstracts page.

The EFYE Committee is delighted that, for the first time, the European and International First Year Experience Conferences will be co-located in Manchester. To enable colleagues to participate in both events, the European conference will run 19-20 June 2011, followed by the International conference with presenters encouraged to submit, where possible, to IFYE enabling a rich European flavour to this international event.

Welcome to Manchester

Considered to many as the ‘Capital of the North’, Manchester is a vibrant city with an exciting blend of culture, history and commerce. As the largest Universty in the UK, The University of Manchester is a major contributor to the city’s cultural heritage. 25 Nobel Laureates have been associated with the University as staff or alumni and the University maintains a number of a assets including museums, galleries and the beautiful Victorian John Rylands Library, which delegates are invited to explore, along with everything else Manchester has to offer, during their stay.

For International delegates, Manchester International Airport has flights from over 200 destinations worldwide and is serviced by a number of low cost airlines including EasyJet, Jet2 and BMI Baby. There is also a direct train link from the Airport to Manchester Piccadilly station, which is just 5 minutes walk from our Sackville Street campus, where the conference will be held.

For local delegates, travelling by train couldn't be easier; with most major cities across the UK offering direct train services into Manchester Piccadilly station (journey time from London to Manchester now takes just over two hours).
